SEO IN 60 SECONDS

If you recently have set up a website or are in the process of building one yourself or having it designed for you, you will probably be aware of the term “SEO”.

What is it, though, and how does it work?

First things first…

What is SEO?

The acronym SEO is short for Search Engine Optimization. This is the process used by web designers and marketers to optimize a website for search engines, of which the most important is generally considered to be Google. It primarily involves improving a site to make sure it ranks high for specific words and phrases.

How Does SEO Work?

Google and other search engines want to be the best search engines they can be and provide the best service and experience for their users. That means they need to deliver results on their pages that are not only the best websites but relevant to what the user is searching for.

They use special tools and programs to crawl (or to put it another way, scan) sites on the web to get a better idea about them.

This information helps the search engine to list sites in the right order so that the right sites come up when the searcher uses specific terms and topics, often referred to as keywords. SEO can be used to make sure a website will rank highly in the search engines for specific keywords and phrases.
